Emma, a
teenager from 1996, has just gotten a new Windows 95 desktop computer. When
Emma’s former best friend/ neighbor, Josh, comes over for a visit and gives
Emma and new AOL software, she is befuddled when a strange site named Facebook
pops up, and even more confused when she find out she is a member of this
website she has never heard of nor been invented yet and, the fact that this
page is her life 15 years from now! After a few hours on the site she has found
pages for Josh, and other friends, and that it’s filled with unexpected
marriages, deaths, pregnancies, etc. Emma and Josh soon discover that they can
change their futures by changing little things now. Every time they log in to
Facebook they see that everything changes by the little actions they are doing
now.
Josh gets his message that he grows up to be
marry the most popular girl in school, but Emma’s future is not all that great.
She finds that she grows up to be in an unhappy marriage with a man named, Jordan Jones
Jr., and by her status update, “Hit my sixth month of unemployment. They say
it’s the economy, but I’m starting to believe it’s me. ” You can see that she is unhappy in her
department of work too.
Teenage
Emma tries very hard to change her future, while teenage Josh is trying hard to
keep his. After Emma and Josh trying hard to change/ keep/ help their future lives,
they’ve realized to just live in present day, rather than obsess over future.
